I brought my 3 year old Appy mare to Travis as a last resort. She had been sent back to me from the first trainer after 2 weeks. The problem- she turned out to be a bucker and bucked the trainer off as well as me.
In the 2 months that she has spent with Travis she has changed into a quiet, calmer horse and has a lot more confidence. Travis was exceptional in keeping me informed and updated with tons of videos so I could watch her progress!
He is wonderful about loving/rewarding the horse when they do the right thing. Many thanks,
M. Casey Hereford, AZ

Travis is an awesome trainer! I am a commercial model and needed a tune-up on horseback riding for a role I am being considered for. So, of course I turned to Travis – He proved to be a great choice! Travis is very knowledgeable and patient and effective instructor. Whether you want training for your horse or yourself, I whole hardheartedly recommend Travis Elliston!

Travis Elliston….I can’t express words on how happy I am with the work he has done on my young horses! I highly recommend him. No way could I have leaned off Smoke to open a gate latch 30 days ago…
If anyone is looking for a heck of a trainer? Travis is awesome.
Suzi Roark Willcox, AZ

My daughter and I are blessed to work with Travis and our horses. Travis is both diligent and patient with my mare and gelding. He understands how my horses think based on their individual personalities, breeding, and most of all – potential. We are so much more confident handling and riding our horses.
April MontgomeryBlackforest, CO

“Travis came highly recommended after I had an unfortunate accident with my horse. He came out to spend time with her and evaluated the events that had taken place that day and was spot on. He’s amazing with horses and is so patient. He understood her almost immediately and knew exactly how to get what he was asking from her. Very blessed to have had the time with such a wonderful horseman and trainer!!

“If you are looking for someone to just give you blanket , canned, one-size-fits all training advice, please do NOT call Travis Elliston. You will be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you want honesty and integrity with training to your specific horse as well as yourself. Travis is definitely the man you should call. Honesty and integrity may not be characteristics you normally think with horseman, but they fully fit Travis. He will individualize his training to each horses needs and levels. Then he will take the time to train the rider as needed as well. With Elliston Equine Solutions you get the best of both – horse trainer and riding instructor – for one very reasonable price. Give him a try, you will not be disappointed.

My 14 year old daughter fell in love with a Noodle, a beautiful 6 yr old thoroughbred mare with a mind of her own. After the second visit the owner and I both had some concerns about my daughter’s ability to safely manage Noodle. Noodle was kicking and just very head strong. My daughter was devastated, but then we decided to have Travis work with Noodle and then my daughter together. I was beyond impressed with the change in noodle. She was so well mannered, no kicking and had learned so much in the short time she spent with Travis. Travis was kind, patient and just knew how to handle both Noodle and my daughter. He was encouraging which is important when working with a 14 year old girl. Long story short, my daughter ended up with the horse of her dreams and we owe it all to Travis. THANK YOU TRAVIS!

After observing Travis working with a multitude of horses and riders of diverse backgrounds and disciplines, I had high hopes that he would be just the right trainer to help me re-build my confidence, while also re-building my horse’s confidence in me. Through my groundwork and riding exercises, along with providing additional tools during my horses “re-active times”, we are on our way. I highly recommend Travis Elliston. He is not only an excellent horse trainer, but is an amazing teacher helping to join horse and rider to become a confident team! Oh, and he reminds us to have fun in the process!
Jocelyn WilliamsUnited States Air Force Academy, CO

There’s a difference between a phenomenal horseman and a phenomenal trainer, luckily Travis is both! For a novice horseman like myself, he can put all his lessons and training techniques in terms I can understand and execute. He is patient and understands that I am learning just as much as my horse in learning, which has gone a long way. My horse has some speed control issues, and within two lessons I now have a level of control I didn’t think I’d have for months. I am more confident in the saddle and my horse and I are working better as a team. Travis is excellent man with lots of wisdom, inside and out of the arena. I HIGHLY recommend him for all your horse and horsemanship needs!

I have spent the last 5 years educating myself on horsemanship. I followed big name trainers and learned a lot. But after I bought 3 mares home from pasture. I felt I needed more guidance from a trustworthy source to help tune them up and get us in the right direction as well as grow in my horsemanship skills along the way. After searching for a trustworthy trainer for almost a year, someone recommended I look into Travis. I have not regretted it!! He has expanded my skills and knowledge much more than I hoped and helped me find the holes in my horses, but mostly in myself. He is wonderful teacher and listener and answers all my questions patiently. I hardly recognize my mares now!! In two months they have gone from problem horses to rock solid mounts and he kept it fun the whole time! He truly has you and your horse’s best interest at heart. I highly recommend him!!
Estella JessopLatigo, CO

Travis has put over 30 hrs on my 5 year old mare quarter horse, Gracie, and used her at Josh Lyons training in northern CO as well as worked with me in the arena over the last 6 months. His touch with the horse and his clarity of instruction have been hugely helpful. I will continue to use his expertise to develop my mare and it’s operator. He really knows how to bring the best out in both!

After our Percheron threw me, I called Travis. He has been such a blessing! He has given myself and my husband the confidence to enjoy our Percheron Elsa and the knowledge to gain her respect. With Travis’s help we have fallen back in love with riding and look forward to every lesson! We highly recommend Travis for any level of horseback riding. As beginners, we have learned more in the few weeks he has worked with us than the years of lessons we have taken. Thank you for all your hard work Travis!
Claire SchroederLatigo, CO
I’ve worked with a few very successful trainers over the years and Travis ranks at the top. I’ve been very impressed with his knowledge, patience and training abilities. He is an excellent teacher not only for the horse but the rider too. I appreciate his ability to communicate with me not only what the horse needs but what I need as well. I just took 2 horses home that have been in training. The progression in these horses has been amazing!
Horses are truly a passion for Travis and it is evident in the end result.
Laura Vaughan Elgin, AZ

I have known and worked with many good horse trainers in all my years with horses and a few were great trainers. Then I met Travis Elliston. Travis is by far in a category that only has one other trainer I know. Travis and Bob Coleman of Smokey Valley Horses share the Exceptional Trainer category. Travis has had my horse, Odin, for a little over a week now. I went to see Travis and Odin today. It is amazing the progress that Travis is making with Odin. It was really something to watch them work together today. Something I really like and appreciate about Travis is while he’s training he explains everything he is doing. He shows you how and explains the why and his expectation of everything he’s doing. He’s not only Great with the horse but will teach the owner as well if you want to learn.
I’m glad we met. I have another horse for him to work with after I take Odin home.
If you have a Gaited horse you need worked with then look no further than Travis Elliston of Elliston Equine Solution LLC. You will be glad you did.

I met a man awhile back. A horse trainer… been watching him and what he does.
And I have to say he’s darn good with teaching the students he takes in! He’s a teacher and a trainer. Quiet and soft spoken, gentle with a kind hand. He teaches his students to want to learn! An then trains them the way to do it. All with patience and perseverance. He’s always in control of himself! Methodical and steady. I wouldn’t hesitate to ask Travis S. Elliston, if he’d be willing to help me with helping a friend learn everything they need to know!
Billy ShoemakerArizona

Travis is what the horse community considers to be its highest compliment: “a good hand… a true horseman.” His resume supports this evaluation. It is also supported by dozens of positive comments about his horsemanship I received from Pikes Peak Range Riders on our annual Warm-Up Ride, which Travis attended as my guest. And, the raves around the United States Air Force Academy barns from patrons and cadets and senior leaders about his training and problem-solving skills, speak to the respect and affection in which he is held.
Kenneth E. Roth, COL, USAF (Retired)Colorado Springs, CO

I have had the opportunity to work with Travis on an almost daily basis over a five-month period as he trained my young horse and gave me invaluable pointers on working with her myself. He proved himself to be supremely knowledgeable when it comes to horse training and very skillful in teaching me new skills as a horse owner.
Travis was always respectful, articulate, and patient. I received daily videos from Travis’ trail rides on my horse. He gave her the confidence to attack difficult trails with a “no problems” attitude. He also taught me how to bring out that confidence and cooperation on my rides too.
Jeanne King, LT COL, RETUS Air Force Academy, CO

Mr. Elliston offered some lessons and instructions to military folks and stood out with outstanding horsemanship, highly effective communication and collaboration skills, and an incredible knowledge about military and equestrian life. His ability to connect to people, while having wealth of background knowledge in areas needed to manage and lead, are reasons I would highly recommend his service to anybody who is able to take advantage of his abilities. Mr. Elliston has a balanced temper, is effectively approachable, a problem solver, encourager, with a gift to connect to animals and humans. He is open minded, highly interested in helping military families and veterans and their special equine connection. He is highly motivated to help others and put himself 100% into the service of work. I unreservedly recommend Mr. Travis Elliston.
Bianca Rimbach M.A.Colorado Springs, CO

Travis Elliston is an excellent Horseman and trainer for all levels of rider and horse. He has a lifetime of experience and can work with any person or any horse at their level to help them achieve their horsemanship goals. His approach is wise and effective. It’s all about “feel, timing and balance”. I highly recommend Travis Elliston

Words could never describe how thankful I am for Travis. Not only did he train Kane from the ground up but he also taught me so much during my own lessons with him. Thank you for all you have done for Kane and I, we couldn’t have ever gotten to where we are with out you.
Shari FryBenson, AZ

When I first met Travis to talk to him about Training our Horse the first thing he said to me is I am very transparent. No truer words were spoken everything he did from day one was for the best interest for the Horse. I would go up once a week to see how training was progressing I was never disappointed. He would explain everything very thorough if I had questions he answered them. We are very fortunate that we found Travis I would recommend and do recommend him to anybody with either a young horse that needs to be trained or an older horse that has issues.
Aleta LeeMescal, AZ

Travis has a incredible Gift when it comes to Horses. He has made such a Huge positive change not only in my Horses but also in me as a rider. I could watch him working with Horses all day long. Travis has turned my young Filly into a confident Horse and Partner..he turned my scared and fearful Arab, that was trained in not such a good way ,to a more confident horse also and undid all the bad and incorrect things that happend to him by showing him a different way to cope with things. I HIGHLY recommend Travis to any horse owner,no matter what discipline you ride ,he will train your horse towards your discipline, even if that means he has to ride on the “pancake” saddle (english saddle) as he calls it..
Maike TerrellHereford, Arizona

Travis has been working with my two young 3 year old Arabians and I am beyond impressed with his knowledge, skill, and keen sense of knowing exactly what each needed and training each horse as an individual. My horses love him and look forward to every lesson. And his skills go far beyond just starting young horses – his horsemanship is amazing. He rode my 15 yr old Arabian dressage gelding only twice and taught him skills that he had never been shown. I have had many trainers over the years, but I have to say that Travis is right at the top. His approach to training is honest and fair to both horse and rider, as well as educational and safety based for both. We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Travis Elliston’s abilities in our area and I would highly recommend him with 20 stars if it were possible.
Charlotte Miller HarveySierra Vista, Arizona

I have learned so much from Travis S. Elliston while taking riding lessons and also from watching him work with other horses. He not only teaches proper form and maneuvers, but also the “why” so that the rider understands the reason what he is teaching is so important. When working with horses that need training, Travis learns where the holes are and through lots of repetition makes those corrections. Our next project is to help a horse gain confidence when he is away from home at different arenas. I am looking forward to seeing what Travis can do for that horse and for me as a rider! I highly recommend Travis! He is extremely knowledgeable, skilled, and willing to help in many different capacities.

I recommend reading any or all of the books below to increase your knowledge in the fields of horsemanship, horseback riding, horse training, farrier, veterinary, the history of the horse, horse psychology and much, much more with concerns to the horse.
I read about 5 books a month. Very few make it to this list. You can be assured that if it is on this list, it is truly one of the best books in its class. Remember that books are to be used as an additional tool to your horsemanship tool box. Books are absolutely useless unless you practice. You can’t learn it from just a book; it just doesn’t work that way. Learn everything you can by books and then get out there and get dirty!
